Why “Denim Day”?...
In 1992, a sexual assault conviction was overturned by an Italian court “…because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them…and by removing the jeans…it was no longer rape, but consensual sex.” As a result, members of Parliament wore jeans to protest – and in 1999, Denim Day was established to combat victim blaming and speak out against sexual violence. . .
